source: 10 editing tips
why i'm researching this:
although i've edited on adobe premiere before, as mentioned in the previous post i want to begin to explore after effects for editing and i want to generally improve on my editing so the film will have a clean look.
general tips:
1 |
- organize everything into folders (audio, sound effects, b-roll, diff types of shots)
- make shortcuts on the program
- use L & J cuts (have the person speak before the camera shows them or while looking at the other camera)
- especially with action shots, cut a little before the action is fully performed before so the audience can grasp the action and see it, even if it appears to be repeated (1&2)
- storyboard what actions mean a different shot so editing will be easier (ex. someone turning around
2 |
- general consistency with which direction characters walk
- shoot in higher resolution in case you need to zoom in
- be careful with audio fades
takeaway:
i will definitely continue to research editing but this video was surprisingly insightful in its tips. i already understood the concept of L & J shots but i didn't know the name so that's interesting, and i'll be looking through the youtube channel of the creator whose video i used for this research for more tips & a more in depth look at editing. i was hoping to include my pets in the film but was worried about the timing so i'm glad he mentioned the superimposing tip for timing, now i can see where i can incorporate them. speaking of, i need to continue with the plot. preview to my next post i guess.
