Research
The research aspect of my project went well. We received the 'mixed' folder with several genres so we took time to decide on a song. Two songs stuck out to us, and we decided on "Me and you Mama" by Childish Gambino. We split up the work easily and evenly, helping each other out on how to set up our research.
Brainstorming
Our genre was Hip Hop Funk, which was a bit hard to work with because we couldn't find many artists who fit this genre. We talked about it for a bit and Hannah brought up the idea to work backwards. We searched for Childish Gambino's company, assuming they housed others hip hop funk artists. We found two companies he is under and decided to use those. We also decided that our music video would depict a bad drug trip.
Production
We originally intended to film everything on a Wednesday, but that day it started pouring around an hour before and since the majority of our scenes took place outside, we decided to postpone it. However, the only other day the rest of my group could was the Friday of that same week, but since I was out of town I could not make it. I don't know the exact process of filming since I was not there but I know they went to the locations we had previously discussed, Markham Park and Hannah's house.
Post-Production
Since I was not available during the production period, I decided to do the post-production editing. With the storyboard in hand I edited the videos with Adobe Premiere and sent my group members clips of the video to ask if I should add or remove anything. I also added a blue tint over the entirety of the video to establish a sad setting, reinforcing the idea that drugs are bad.
Presentation
Our presentation went well but I think we should have added more information. On the website specifically, I think I could've gone into further explanation of its purpose and explored the website itself. Besides that, I think our presentation was well made and easily understood. We spent time both in class and at home to perfect it.
Reflection
Overall, I learned to think outside the box more and always second guess yourself to be sure your ideas will work out. The comments made by the class after the video will help me for my portfolio because now I know I should see other people's perspectives to be sure my message is easily understood.
